SEC v. Lamar D. Fletcher — U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Litigation Release No. 26656, dated September 30, 2026.
Named in the SEC’s action
The SEC charged Lamar D. Fletcher with orchestrating a real estate offering fraud, raising over $4.25 million from approximately 100 investors nationwide. Fletcher allegedly misrepresented his companies' success and promised high returns, but instead used investor funds for personal expenses and to pay earlier investors, operating a Ponzi-like scheme.
In Plain English
Imagine someone promising to invest your money in exciting real estate projects that would earn you a lot of profit. Lamar Fletcher did just that, telling about 100 people he'd use their money to buy and develop properties. But instead of buying real estate, he spent much of the money on himself and used money from new investors to pay off older ones, like a house of cards that was bound to fall.
Disclaimer: all facts are drawn from the SEC's own filings; the claims described are allegations unless and until a court rules or the parties settle, and some cases end in dismissal.
How the Alleged Scheme Worked
- Creating a False Image Between April 2021 and November 2024, Lamar D. Fletcher created the illusion that he owned and operated a successful real estate business. He presented himself as an experienced investor in online social media groups focused on real estate.
- Forming Shell Companies To facilitate his scheme, Fletcher formed two companies: Fletchers Capital Group, LLC in March 2021 and Fletchers Multi-Family Real Estate Partners Fund, LP in December 2022. He controlled both companies, which were never registered with the SEC.
- Soliciting Investors with False Promises Fletcher solicited approximately 100 investors nationwide, telling them their investments would be used to acquire and develop real property for his companies' projects. He promised investors returns of up to 80% or more on an annualized basis.
- Misappropriating Investor Funds Instead of using investor funds for real estate development, Fletcher allegedly used more than $2 million for personal expenses. The funds were not used in connection with any real estate development as promised.
- Operating a Ponzi Scheme To sustain the illusion and pay earlier investors, Fletcher used more than $2 million of money raised from later investors. This classic Ponzi scheme structure was used to pay supposed returns to earlier investors.
- Companies Become Defunct Fletchers Capital Group, LLC was administratively dissolved in September 2025, and Fletchers Multi-Family Real Estate Partners Fund, LP had its registration cancelled in June 2025, indicating the collapse of Fletcher's fraudulent enterprises.
